A hands-on Makonde woodcarving workshop in Pemba, where visitors learn the ancient art of Makonde sculpture from master carvers. Participants select wood, learn basic carving techniques with traditional tools, and create their own small piece to take home. The workshop also includes a gallery of finished works and a session on the cultural significance of Makonde mask traditions. 90% of revenue supports a youth apprenticeship programme keeping the carving tradition alive.
