About Nendeni

Nendeni is an ethical travel platform connecting conscious adventurers with authentic, community-led cultural experiences across rural Mozambique. We believe tourism should dignify, not extract — that every traveler who walks through a village in Sofala, sails the mangroves of Inhambane, or shares a meal with a family in Nampula should leave behind more than footprints. They should leave behind opportunity.

Our platform serves two communities. For travelers, we curate a bilingual directory of eco-lodges, community tours, cultural experiences, conservation projects, and homestays — each vetted for ethical practices, community benefit percentage, and certification status. For rural operators who often lack bank accounts, smartphones, or reliable internet, we built the Nendeni Bridge: a system that delivers bookings via WhatsApp, USSD, and SMS, and disburses payments through M-Pesa so that revenue reaches the families who host you without intermediaries swallowing the margin.

Nendeni is built by a small team of technologists, storytellers, and community organizers working alongside Digital Stewards — local community members trained to manage listings, handle bookings, and earn commission. We are partnered with conservation projects in Gorongosa National Park, artisan cooperatives in Ilha de Mozambique, and homestay networks across Cabo Delgado. Every listing on our directory is community-verified, and we publish transparent community benefit percentages so travelers can see exactly how much of their spending stays local.

We are not a tour operator. We are a bridge — between the digital economy and the communities it has left behind, between travelers who seek meaning and communities who have stories to share. Nendeni is the cloth that Mozambican women wrap themselves in, vibrant and unapologetic. We chose that name because we believe travel, done right, should wrap around a community and hold it together.
